A big part of Industry 4.0 requires the successful integration of the supply chain into the manufacturing process. In the ideal vision, a close cooperation, with rapid information sharing, is established between suppliers, the manufacturer and end customers. But this vision demands a major paradigm shift from traditional manufacturing infrastructure.
On May 17th, the Edge Lab is hosting a special conference celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Lab on the Princeton campus. “Edge10: A Conference on Edge & Fog” is open to the public and represents an important milestone for the edge industry. The conference will feature prominent leaders from the nation’s leading research universities and industry, including large, established players and vibrant startups.
Initiated in 2010, IoT Day is about sharing anecdotes to help raise awareness about the many ways the industrial internet impacts the world. The upcoming union of the Industrial Internet Consortium and the OpenFog Consortium, announced this week, will transform the future of industrial networks. The two organizations’ combined talents will enable us to capitalize on the undeniable momentum of the two largest and most influential international consortia in Industrial IoT, 5G and AI computing.
The merger of the OpenFog Consortium and the Industrial Internet Consortium is a win/win/win for end users, Consortium members, and the industry overall. Both consortia share a pragmatic approach of developing specifications and testbeds and aligning the interests of a diverse set of stakeholders from throughout the broader community.
On the 26th of November, the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) announced the publication of results for the Smart Manufacturing Connectivity for Brown-field Sensors Testbed. The testbed demonstrates a retrofit solution for brown-field manufacturing cells that allows for higher-level IT systems to retrieve a high volume of sensor data to enable advanced analytics and machine learning algorithms.
Trustworthiness in the context of an industrial system is a relatively new term intended to provide a better understanding of the meaning of trust in such a system and how this trust can be approached by the operational user as well as the planner and designer of the system. While industrial systems vary greatly in their purpose and scope, their stakeholders share an important common element, and that is a deep-rooted trust.
On October 16th, IIoT industry stakeholders from throughout the world met in Barcelona, Spain for the fourth annual IoT Solutions World Congress. With 300 exhibitors and a Congress boasting 400 top-level speakers, the 2018 IoT Solutions World Congress explored the latest industrial IoT innovations to bring visitors the necessary cutting-edge expertise and strategies to capitalize on IoT.
